The Chippewa County Courthouse addition provides approximately 80,000 square feet of space used to consolidate the county's various departments which had previously been spread out over five locations.
Design of the four-story addition confines the majority of public traffic to the first floor where offices most frequently visited by citizens are located. This design successfully minimizes disruption to other portions of the courthouse and allows the public to quickly access the offices most essential to them. To aid public access to all levels of the facility, additional elevator systems were added.
Egress and security issues were also addressed in the courthouse remodeling. Converting one of the elevators to a secured elevator used only for prisoner transport reduced public and prisoner security concerns.
The Chippewa County Courthouse addition was constructed with a limestone exterior to visually integrate it with the existing facility. Terrazzo flooring is used in the facility to bring continuity of style to the old and new segments of the courthouse.
