Neuman Family YMCA of Dodge County

The YMCA of Dodge County was seeking an expansion and modernization solution for their antiquated facilities. During local fundraising efforts, the determination was made that a new facility on a new site would be the best solution for the community. At that time, the YMCA chose to work with SDS Architects of Eau Claire on preliminary design as well as site evaluation and selection for the new YMCA project.

An 18-acre site was identified which would allow the Y to build big enough to accommodate all the programming in one facility while allowing for adequate parking and future expansion.

The Beaver Dam community had another asset that allowed for an extra special YMCA project. A local firm, Water Technology, Inc. and the Neuman Group specialize in design and construction of pools and waterpark features worldwide. Their close involvement and contributions helped to create an outstanding finished product.

The new YMCA features 60,000 square feet of space on two levels. This space includes the lobby, offices, gymnasium, locker rooms, fitness center, aerobics room, and an impressive child care area. Rather than simply providing drop-in care while individuals utilize the facilities, the YMCA of Dodge County offers full time daycare for children. Carefully designed classroom and child care space rivals that of any school district. The 23,000 square foot aquatics center features both a lap/instructional pool as well as a recreational pool. The recreational pool is enhanced by a waterslide that is routed outside the building to conserve interior space, extend the length of the slide, and visually express the recreational aspect of the facility from the exterior.

"The new facility helped us double our membership and see a 220% increase in program participation," says director Jen Kruel. "People love all aspects of our user-friendly facility from the amenities to the daycare center, which has a waiting list," she added.
