Tom Twohig
Principal Architect,
I pursued a career in Architecture because it combined my interests in art, design and construction in one career. I also enjoy history and studying civilizations through their built environment was of particular interest to me.

I enjoy assisting clients in fulfilling their needs and expectations through a completed project. There are many aspects of the design process that offer a wide variety of activities from project inception to completed construction. The design is a collaboration with the client and a wide range of consultants to achieve the prescribed goals. Architecture is the orchestration of all the efforts of the design team to meet the demands of the client and is the most gratifying and critical aspect of our profession.

Our team at SDS is committed to the success of every project. Each person has a particular contribution to the effort that culminates in a successfully completed project that the entire team can take pride in. The part of the design process I enjoy the most is when the building is partially enclosed and you can begin to experience the interior spaces with the client and fully comprehend the spaces they are about to become.

I am a member of the Menomonie Downtown Historic Preservation Commission. I am the architectural representative on that Commission and we review building projects within the Menomonie Downtown Historic District. I enjoy all seasons in Wisconsin and try to spend as much time outdoors as possible.

My career in architecture began in in 1984 and I joined SDS Architects in 1991. I earned two degrees from the University of Minnesota, a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture as well as a Bachelor of Environmental Design.
