SDS Architects has greatly enjoyed our collaboration on The Oxbow Hotel project now completed in downtown Eau Claire. SDS and design partner Shelter Architects of Minneapolis have completed the project along with owner, Longform LLC.
Several elements make this project stand out from others by SDS Architects, including:
1) Extensive remodeling and re-use of existing facility. While remodeling and re-use are frequent types of projects for SDS Architects, the depth and extent of this project are significant. The Oxbow Hotel is a reincarnation of the former Green Tree Inn & Suites in Downtown Eau Claire. The former inn had declined significantly over the years and had become an eyesore in the downtown area. Rather than demolish the facility and start over, the ownership group, Longform LLC, decided to significantly and completely renovate the space while working within the original footprint and retaining a few original features.
2) Overwhelming focus on creative design. The Oxbow Hotel Project has entailed a design process which has included a large collaborative team of creative individuals which comprises the architectural design team, the primary owners themselves, the contractor, lighting and other feature designers, and even the chef, to ensure a unique and interesting design within the project budget.
3) Synergy with downtown. SDS Architects has had the pleasure of working on several significant downtown Eau Claire projects over the years including Phoenix Park and its facilities such as the trailhead building and the Farmer’s Market pavilion, the Volume One World Headquarters, the Chamber of Commerce building, and others. The Oxbow Hotel project is another landmark project that will be an asset to the community for years to come.
SDS Architects has brought the best of our creative design ability as well as our practical skills of exceptional project management including meeting a specific budget and creating thorough construction documents during this part of the process. Congratulations to the ownership group, Longform LLC, and all other collaborators on this project.
