This auditorium renovation and addition was a major part of the North High School Expansion & Remodeling project that involved eight separate additions and extensive remodeling of the existing facility. Constructed in the early 1960's, the auditorium was in dire need of upgrades to mechanical, electrical and sound systems. In addition, the size of the auditorium inadequately served a high school enrollment that had greatly increased over the past forty years.
The primary focus of this project was the expansion of the auditorium seating capacity from 600 to 1,000 seats. A key challenge for this project was tying in new walls, ceiling and floor surfaces of the 3,000 square foot auditorium addition with the existing irregularly-shaped auditorium space. New heating, ventilating and air-conditioning, electrical, lighting and sound systems were installed to provide a state-of-the-art community and school auditorium.
In addition to the expansion of the auditorium proper, the project also included new sound equipment, control rooms and a 3,200 square foot lobby that serves both the auditorium and newly constructed high school administration offices. The North High School project was completed while the facility remained occupied by both students and staff.
