To strengthen its identity as a "distinctive" jewelry store, Lasker Jewelers made the decision to consolidate its three separate store locations (downtown and at two local malls) into a new freestanding facility near Eau Claire's largest mall.
The exterior of Lasker Jewelers uses a variety of masonry products. In addition to split-faced and burnished concrete units, the exterior has a substantial amount of stone, brick masonry, and glass block. The ?split? and ?polished? block subtly express some of the processes involved in jewelry design. The masonry was also used to convey a feeling of strength and stability, while the glass block reflects and transmits light, giving a sense of transparency and brilliance.
The building also has a copper roof with an octagonal skylight. The skylight, which crowns the circular, 27,000-square-foot sales floor, allows natural light to reach the entire sales floor. Faceted, ceiling-height block glass windows follow the curve of the walls on three sides of the sales floor, enhancing the natural light on the wooden display cabinets and wainscoting. Recessed lighting subtly focuses customers' attention on the jewelry displayed in the store.
Running the length of the north side of the building and allowing for an abundance of north light are a diamond room, conference rooms for private consultation with customers, a jewelry repair shop with windows allowing customers to view the jewelry repair and construction process, and private offices.
