With the completion of the new three-building Central Maintenance Facility complex, the City of Eau Claire centralized its maintenance department employees and equipment on a single site near the center of the city.
The key challenges faced in the design of the new facility included fitting the complex on a confided sloping site and designing a building that complements the residential area in which it is located.
The main building is a 60,000 square foot facility that houses administrative offices and support areas for city maintenance and transit department personnel, shops fro equipment, and vehicle repair , and bus storage and washing facilities.
Located immediately north of the main building is a vehicle storage facility with employee parking on top of the structure. The rooftop parking concept offers a unique and practical solution to the lack of on-site area of employee parking. Construction of the vehicle storage building into the hillside allows for grade access to the rooftop parking lot.
The third building, the former city shop facility, has been remodeled for use by the City Parks & Recreation Department.
